A central feature of this architecture is the lifecycle management of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) services, which are used both to power next-generation applications and to dynamically adapt the system to the highly heterogeneous, fast-evolving B5G and forthcoming 6G environments.\nThe architecture is structured around three core pillars. The first, Edge for AI (Edge4AI), enables a unified compute environment spanning edge and cloud resources. It supports closed-loop, intent-based orchestration across multiple sites and edge locations, backed by a unified observability stack for data collection and availability. Edge4AI also facilitates distributed and split computation through advanced programming models and frameworks, allowing fine-grained orchestration of workflows and intra-node micro-orchestration on FPGA SoC devices.\nThe second pillar, AI for Edge (AI4Edge), focuses on developing AI solutions tailored for edge computing. It delivers intelligent algorithms that optimize resource allocation, support distributed learning, and improve network performance. An end-to-end AI orchestration component ensures seamless integration and coordination of multiple AI models, fostering a resilient and unified AI-driven network ecosystem.\nThe third pillar, Security, Privacy, and Trustworthiness for AI (SPT4AI), addresses robustness, safety, privacy, and explainability challenges to strengthen trustworthiness in AI models.\nThe VERGE architecture has enabled the development of various Edge4AI, AI4Edge and SPT4AI solutions that have demonstrated significant performance gains'\u2014enhancing latency, availability, and reliability; reducing power consumption; increasing flexibility, scalability, and computational efficiency; and improving the overall trustworthiness of AI models.","references":"[1] E.
